The
Family Violence Unit is comprised of three certified law enforcement
officers. Each member of the unit has been cross-trained as well as provides
on
call services to law enforcement
for Chatham County families. The Unit was recently created to better
serve all types of families in crisis as well as linkage to community
resources.
OVERVIEW
Sgt. Williams, the Juvenile Officer for the Unit is responsible for investigating
any type of complaint regarding children between the age of newborn -18
years of age. More specifically these types of calls pertain directly
to child
abuse. Sgt. Johnson, Sgt. Bullis, and Sgt. Santiago are the Domestic Violence officers
for the Unit is responsible for coordinating services for domestic violence
victims.
They
assist victims in all court proceedings, linkage to community services,
transporting victims to court and participating in safety planning.
Additionally, the Unit provides education and training for the community
on family violence issues, as well as community resources within Chatham
County.
